Lightweight camping cot ideal for hiking or even used for sleep overs. The design lifts the sleeper off the ground and the waterproof material under tension creates a really comfortable bed for people who like to sleep on their sides or hips. This cot is very durable and you can happily walk from one end to the other in hiking boots without concern for stretching anything or breaking it.
Unfortunately it is not resistant to mouse teeth! When I left this in my shed, a mouse gnawed on it and put two holes in the middle and frayed the end while the mouse used my rolled up tent as a nest. The tent is now shredded.
I have patched the holes on the cot, the larger using a waterproof patch designed for inflatable raft and tent repairs, the other with a small patch of tape. They haven’t caused any issues after several multi-night expeditions.
The design avoids catastrophic failure that inflatable mats can suffer from punctures . A sharp stone won’t destroy a good nights sleep. Suitable for tarp camping as you can camp without a ground sheet thanks to the waterproof material. It’s not as light as an inflatable mat at 1.25kg but the cot is more of a luxury item. I’ve saved weight with this design by leaving my tent inner at home when on expedition.
The design is a little bit like assembling a tent, where the poles are used to create tension on the sheet and everything is designed to flex under your body weight. The configuration can be customised to work with fewer cross struts or supports for a lighter package but the comfort isn’t quite good enough.
