Mountain Clean Up

| Recycle Outdoor Gear | 25th July, 2012

We published a story on ROG a few weeks ago called Oceans of Litter  with the above photo.

We asked the question what would the board look like after a UK mountain clean up.

Well we may be going to find out.

An initiative to clean up the environment called Respect the Mountains Envirotrek Mountain Clean Up is sponsored by Keen, will take place for the first time in the U.K.  on August 5 in the Peak District.

Participants will help collect rubbish and other waste at the site in Bamford, Hope Valley. After the clean-up there is an invite to choose to take part in a range of outdoor activities including mountain biking, canyoning, climbing and caving.

Envirotrek is a three-year-old joint venture between Respect The Mountains and Keen, the U.S.-based footwear producer, with events organized since 2009 across European mountain destinations including Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and France.

More than 500 kg of rubbish was cleared in 445 hours thanks to last year’s Envirotrek actions across Europe.

It’s a great opportunity to take care of the environment while enjoying outdoor activities in nature.

The official retail partner to the inaugural UK Envirotrek is Outside, Hathersage in Derbyshire more information on to register for a place please contact Keen Footwear

This is really great news we hope it all goes well.

Marine Trash Beach Collection

Walking along a beach in The Burren a few weeks ago I came across the above.

A striking example of the amazing array of litter found on the shore. The banner had been created after a beach clean up.

This was only a very tiny selection, what you don’t see in the photo is the mound of litter awaiting collection.

I pondered on beach litter during my walk and arrived at this question.

If we did a clean up of our popular mountain areas what would the photo look like?

Maybe it has already been done if you have any photos please share them.
